Tam's Pathway
Tam Nguyen was a non-traditional student.
Previously taking some time off of school she knew finishing her degree was very important to her. She decided to return to further her education and wanted to be a role model for her children. She was excited to continue her education and pursue her dreams at the University of Minnesota.
Tam chose Medical Laboratory Science as her major because she was passionate about science and healthcare. She was drawn to the challenge and excitement of working in a fast-paced, ever changing field. She feels this career gives her the opportunity to make a difference in the world.
Receiving the Pathways Scholarship meant a lot to Tam. It allowed her to focus on her studies without worrying about financial constraints. Being the first person in her family to attend college this scholarship changed her life in many ways. The scholarship not only gave her financial freedom to pursue her dreams but it also gave her the confidence in her skills with her academic workload. With this confidence in herself, she knew she could make a positive impact in the world as a Medical Laboratory Scientist. “It has also allowed me to gain knowledge from some of the most knowledgeable people in this field. The Pathways Scholarship has also allowed me to network with other professionals in the healthcare field. I have met many inspiring people through the MLS Program and learned so much from them.” She believes that the Pathways Scholarship has not only impacted her life but it also has helped other students in their future endeavors.
Tam graduated from the Medical Laboratory Sciences program in 2022. She is currently looking for a Medical Laboratory Science position and is eager to use her skills in the real world. “I am excited to use my knowledge to help people, especially those who have limited healthcare knowledge due to language barriers.”
