Scott Miller, OTD, MS, OTR/L

Summary

I first graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee with a BSOT in 1981. After working in various clinical practice settings and in differing roles I pursued my advanced degrees in OT. In 2013, I received my post-professional MSOT degree and in 2016, I completed my professional OTD. These were both from Mount Mary University in Milwaukee Wisconsin. During this educational journey spanning many years I have had the pleasure to work as a practitioner in Wisconsin, Ohio and Minnesota.

Recently I’ve worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester-Minnesota. As a clinician there I have assessed and treated various clients in acute care, acute inpatient rehabilitation and within the outpatient practice setting for almost 14 years. This opportunity has helped me developed a depth of experiences and skills in adult neurorehabilition for conditions affecting the brain or spine. Other work roles outside of being a clinician for a long time have been as an OT Director-Ohio, Rehab Director-Ohio and Wisconsin, Area Assistant Administrator-Wisconsin, and an OT Lab Instructor for UMN. My other practice experiences have been in rural acute hospital settings, general outpatient services, skilled rehab in Senior Living Community and long-term care, assistive living, sheltered workshop, and a few small programs for early childhood intervention.

My faculty roles have been at the University of Minnesota, Mount Mary University and St. Catherine’s University in several capacities before joining UMN full-time. My ongoing interest include evidence based assessment, treatment, outcomes for those with neurological impairments, use of neuro-motor reeducation in recovery of UE function to use in one’s occupational abilities, telehealth/telerehabilitation for those with neurologic conditions and also the elderly, adult learning, and distance education of students. I also have the role and responsibility of being the assistant program director in OT on the Rochester campus so sometimes; I might be seen taking care of administrative responsibilities wearing this hat.
