Financial Aid Resources
The One Stop website and One Stop counselors are your primary financial aid resources on campus. Visit the One Stop website for more information about the basics of financial aid that include application for aid, acceptance and distribution of funds.
Cost of Attendance
The cost categories are estimates and are meant to assist preparing a personal budget. Individual student costs will vary. Visit the One Stop Student Services website to estimate tuition for our program.
In addition to general tuition and fees of the University, there are fees charged for individual occupational therapy courses. To identify which courses have additional fees, visit the One Stop course fees web site. Each year in July, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents approves the tuition and fees for the next academic year. Tuition and Fees are subject to change. Scholarships
Each spring, incoming and current OT students are notified with the application for available fellowship funding.
Scholarship application submission for each academic year begins mid-summer.
Students are strongly encouraged to complete a FAFSA application for consideration of any need based funding sources. The fellowship must be used for the payment, partially or totally, of tuition and fees for the qualified student. Selection of candidates is determined by the fellowship committee, which is composed of three faculty members. Incoming students are given preference for this award. Information from their academic coursework, performance in the program, and FAFSA scores will be used to select the awardees. Please be advised that Financial Aid loans are decreased by the amount of the fellowship, if you have University of Minnesota financial aid.

Richard J. McCauley Fellowship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of this fellowship is to increase diversity in the profession of occupational therapy. The amount of the award ranges from about $1500 to $4000. The number of awards annually will vary dependent on the fund balance of this fellowship.
Selection of candidates is determined by the fellowship committee, composed of three faculty members. Incoming students are given preference for this award.
The committee considers the following criteria when selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Potential for contribution to the profession
- Ability to contribute to the diversity of the profession, either through membership in a minority group because of race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability status or through demonstrated experience with or commitment to diversity.
All entering students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy are eligible for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials will be used to select the awardees. Consideration will be given to academic excellence and ability to contribute to diversity in the profession.
Borghild Hansen Memorial Fellowship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of the Borghild Hansen Memorial fellowship is to award applicants with academic excellence who are entering the Program in Occupational Therapy. The amount of the award ranges from about $1000 to $2000. The number awarded annually varies depending on the fund balance of this fellowship.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Potential for contribution to the profession
All entering students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy will be considered for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials will be used to select the awardees. Consideration will be given to academic excellence and leadership roles as a pre-OT student.
Marie Louise Wales Fellowship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of the Marie Louise Wales fellowship is to support students in the MOT Program in Occupational Therapy or the MS or PhD Program in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Minnesota who demonstrate the potential to contribute to the health of children. One or two awards ranging from $1000 to $3000 will be awarded each year. The number of awards annually will vary dependent on the fund balance of this fellowship.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- A designated pediatric focus as evidenced by one or more of the following:
- dissertation topic
- thesis or Plan B topic
- coursework in pediatrics
- prior work or volunteer experience in pediatrics
- fieldwork in pediatrics related specialty area of practice
- Potential to contribute to the health of children
All students entering or enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy or the Program in Rehabilitation Science (OT advisement) will be considered for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials or application to the Rehab Science program or MOT coursework and fieldwork in pediatrics will be used to select the awardees. Consideration will be given to academic excellence and the potential to contribute to the health of children. The fellowship must be used for the payment, partially or totally, of tuition and fees for the qualified student.
McCauley, Alumni, and Friends Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Fellowship
The goal of the McCauley, Alumni, and Friends Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Fellowship is to assist second year occupational therapy students in completing the Level II fieldwork for a degree in occupational therapy. This fellowship is intended to support those students who demonstrate financial need based on information from the FAFSA reports. Awards ranging between $500 and $1000 will be distributed each year based on the fund balance for this fellowship.
Second year students are given preference for this award.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Recipients of the award must be full-time, graduate students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy who have demonstrated acceptable levels of academic performance and potential in the field.
- Financial need will be determined from the FAFSA scores provided from the financial aid office of the Academic Health Center.
All students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy in their second year will be considered for this award. The fellowship must be used for the payment, partially or totally, of tuition and fees for the qualified student while the student completes his/her fieldwork requirement.
Marvin Lepley Memorial Graduate Fellowship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of the Marvin Lepley Memorial Graduate Fellowship in Occupational Therapy is to award applicants with academic excellence who are entering the Program in Occupational Therapy. The annual awards vary depending on the fund balance of this fellowship.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Financial need
- Potential for contribution to the profession
All entering students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy will be considered for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials will be used to select the awardees.
Terry Berg Memorial Scholarship
The goal of the Terry Berg Memorial Scholarship in Occupational Therapy is to award applicants with academic excellence who are entering the Program in Occupational Therapy. The annual awards vary depending on the fund balance of this fellowship.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Potential for contribution to the profession
- Preference will be given to students completing their occupational therapy internships with children in a rural setting
All entering students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy will be considered for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials will be used to select the awardees.
Francis and Jack Eberlein Scholarship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of the Frances and Jack Eberlein Scholarship in Occupational Therapy is to award applicants with demonstrated financial need and good academic standing who are entering the Program in Occupational Therapy. The award is renewable, but recipients must maintain good academic standing. The annual awards vary depending on the fund balance of this fellowship.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Demonstrated financial need
- Potential for contribution to the profession
- Preference will be given to students to non-traditional students or students changing careers
All entering students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy will be considered for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials will be used to select the awardees.
Optional Fieldwork CCR Fellowship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of the Optional Fieldwork CCR Fellowship in Occupational Therapy is to assist second year occupational therapy students completing a third Level II fieldwork course. The Program in Occupational Therapy awards fellowships ranging between $500 to $700. The number of awards annually will vary dependent on the fund balance.
Selection of candidates will be determined by the fellowship committee, which is composed of three faculty members.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Commitment to complete an optional Level II fieldwork course
- Potential for contribution to the profession
- Minnesota resident
All students assigned to an optional Level II fieldwork and who pay in state tuition rates will be considered for this award. The fellowship must be used for the payment, partially or totally, of tuition and fees for the qualified student while the student completes his/her optional Level II fieldwork requirement.
Selection of awardees will be made during the fourth semester of the curriculum, prior to fieldwork.
Annette Levey Scholarship in Occupational Therapy
The goal of the Annette Levey Scholarship in Occupational Therapy is to award applicants with academic excellence who are entering the Program in Occupational Therapy. The annual awards vary depending on the fund balance of this fellowship.
The committee shall consider the following criteria in selecting students for the award:
- Academic excellence
- Financial need
- Potential for contribution to the profession
All entering students enrolled in the Program in Occupational Therapy will be considered for this award. Information in the OTCAS application and supplemental materials will be used to select the awardees.
Joan and Patrick Daems Occupational Therapy Scholarship
The goal of the Joan and Patrick Daems Occupational Therapy Scholarship is to provide financial support to students at the University of Minnesota. Students are eligible to be considered for this award if they are: a) attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities: b) professional degree seeking students: c) studying toward a degree in the Occupational Therapy Program; d) able to demonstrate financial need. e) Preference will be given to students who demonstrate the potential to contribute to the health of children with physical or cognitive impairment. This award may be renewable to the recipient, provided the recipient demonstrates satisfactory progress toward a degree and continues to meet the criteria of the award.
Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistantships are an additional source of potential funding for students in the OT Program. The employment opportunities carry a variety of benefits, including health insurance, and can be viewed on the University of Minnesota’s Graduate Assistants Employment Services site.
