Student Governance

Student governance is a great way to develop teamwork and leadership skills.  Each year there are opportunities for students to serve in positions that advise the OT program, the larger University, and support the current student experience.  Below are descriptions of the positions for which we seek student representation each year. Students from each campus are needed for all positions.

Role Responsibilities
OT Student Organization Co-Chair 

Coordinate all student related activities including new student orientation and OT Month Events; hold monthly meetings; serve as an Association of Student Delegates member in the larger American Occupational Therapy Association.

OT Student Organization  Co-Secretary/Treasurer

Records  and disseminate all OTS meeting minutes; post meeting minutes, manage OTS budget for any fundraising activities; record all transactions
Minnesota OT Association Student Representatives to the Board of Directors

Attend monthly MOTA meetings and annual conference; coordinate OTS volunteers for MOTA Conference; promote membership

OT Day at the capitol planning committee Work with students from other OT programs and the MOTA government affairs committee to plan and run OT day at the Capital.
Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP) Executive Council 

Attend monthly CHIP meetings and events; report to OT student organization; attend CHIP rounds

Academic Health Center Student Consultative
Committee (AHC SCC)

Student representatives from each of the AHC colleges and allied health fields meet once per month with the  Assistant Vice President for Education to talk about student issues and concerns

Anatomy Bequest Program Memorial Service Planning team

Work with other students in health sciences to plan the  annual memorial service honoring those who choose  to donate  their bodies to the anatomy labs at the U of M

Journal Club Coordinator Works with faculty to plan and organize the student journal club each month.

Nominations to serve in any of these positions are solicited midway through semester one by the faculty student liaison. You will get more information at that time.
