Many prospective students come to the MLS program from colleges and universities in and around the state of Minnesota. To assist those students in preparing for admission, transfer guides have been developed for a number of institutions. These transfer guides list course requirements and their equivalent courses at your college or university. Please use these transfer guides to help you select the courses that will meet the program’s prerequisite course requirements.
If your institution is not listed, or the Planning Guide for your school(s) does not list the courses you have taken, please send the following information to firstname.lastname@example.org for review:
- Name of Institution where course was completed
- Course Number and Name
- Number of credit hours
- Year and semester taken
- Course description(s)
- Syllabi (if available)
Minnesota State (formerly MNSCU)
Transfer students from Minnesota State Schools may satisfy the University of Minnesota Liberal Education requirements by completing the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum. Completion of the MnTC must be noted on the schools official transcript. More information on completion of the MnTC can be found here.
University of Minnesota
Students transferring to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities from system campuses may have conflicts with liberal education or prerequisite requirements. It is recommended that students meet with their current advisor to discuss changing campuses and complete the steps in the Guide for changing your U of M campus on the Onestop website. The change of campus form should be completed at the same time as the MLS application.
Minnesota Private Schools
Students from Minnesota Private Colleges and Univeristies may complete the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum or receive an Associate of Arts degree from their institution before transferring. Students should complete the undergraduate application for admission to the University before applying to the MLS program to get a full analysis of which university requirements they will need to meet in addition to MLS prerequistes. More information on applying to the University of Minnesota may be found here.
